If you are in a position where employees confide in you to keep their information confidential it is very important that the trust is not broken. It is very easy to get carried away with a conversation over lunch or in a break room, many times it is not done on purpose. I also agree with asking the employee if it is okay to share their thoughts or ideas with the team or with the department so that everyone can be involved. It makes the employee feel appreciated and valued.
